Feeling blue? We’ve got just the solution—indigo! In this workshop, we’ll explore the magic of indigo in three forms: a fructose vat, an iron vat, and freshly picked, farm-grown indigo. We’ll begin with a walk through the garden to observe the varieties of indigo we grow and discuss how to incorporate them into your own garden.
We’ll cover the basics of vat maintenance for those interested in starting their own, and compare the strengths of each dyeing method as we create a fabric sampler. You’ll also learn a variety of resist techniques to produce beautiful, one-of-a-kind patterns.
Participants are invited to bring their own materials to dye—whether it’s fabric yardage for sewing, yarn for fiber arts, or well-loved pillowcases ready for a new life. Registration includes a half-yard of fabric for your sampler and a small silk item of your choice to dye with fresh indigo. Additional dyeable materials will be available for purchase.
Coffee, tea, and treats will be served.
