Make Your Own Watercolor Paints from Plants

Join us for a hands-on workshop where you’ll learn to transform garden-grown botanicals into richly pigmented, travel-ready watercolor paints. We’ll begin by harvesting plants from the garden, then learn how to extract their color, convert it into lake pigments, and mull them into professional-quality paints.

You’ll create a lake pigment from start to finish and build a custom palette of botanical watercolors to take home. Each participant will leave with 3 handmade paints fresh from the garden.

In this class, you’ll learn:
• How to identify and extract color from plants
• How to turn a dye bath into a stable lake pigment
• Binder recipes and optional additives
• How to blend pigments for custom colors
• Proper mulling techniques for smooth, vibrant paint

Our facilities include an air-conditioned classroom, bathroom, and abundant outdoor work spaces. Please dress comfortably for both indoor and outdoor climates, as well as an afternoon of standing, sitting, and brief walking.

Coffee, tea, & treats will be served.
