Mushroom Dyed Yarns
Immerse yourself in the hands-on process of transforming foraged mushrooms into a vibrant palette of natural color. In this full-day workshop, you’ll participate in creating dye baths from wild fungi sourced from the Southeast and West Coast, and dye protein-based yarn of your choice.
Working directly with a range of mordants and modifiers, you’ll explore how subtle shifts in chemistry can yield dramatically different results—building a spectrum of up to ten distinct colors from mushrooms and lichens.
You’ll leave with a curated collection of fungi-dyed yarns, a deeper understanding of fungal dyeing techniques, and the confidence to continue developing complex natural color palettes on your own.
Each participant will dye 200 grams of protein-based yarn (wool, silk, alpaca, mohair, or blends) — enough for a few cozy pairs of socks or gloves, or to add pops of color to larger projects.
Two hundred grams of wool yarn are included in your registration. You’re welcome to upgrade to premium fibers for an additional fee; a full list of available yarns will be emailed prior to the workshop. I aim to offer a range of weights and fiber types so everyone leaves with yarn they’re excited to use. If you have a special yarn — such as handspun or fiber from your favorite sheep farmer — reach out in advance, and we’ll discuss options for incorporating it into your dye day.
Our facilities include an air-conditioned classroom, bathroom, and abundant outdoor work spaces. Please dress comfortably for both indoor and outdoor climates, as well as an afternoon of standing, sitting, and brief walking.

Cancelation Policy
If you need to withdraw from a workshop, a refund will be issued, minus transaction fees, provided that notice is given at least 4 weeks before the workshop date. If shorter notice is given, we will issue a refund if we can fill your spot. You may transfer your enrollment to a friend at any time.
